Who can play the Constellations game ? With whom ?

Whether you’re monogamous or non-monogamous, in a couple, throuple or triad, in an open or polyamorous relationship, gay, bi, pan, lesbian or straight, all the situations on the cards are designed to be inclusive and can be adapted to your relationship style.

You can play Constellations with friends or on a date, with your partner(s), or even with your whole polycule! The whole point of the game is to explore all facets of non‑exclusivity, whether sexual or romantic, and to reflect on the ways we relate in general (with our friends, our romantic and sexual partners, our dates, our exes…).

And if you already feel a bit lost among all these terms, don’t worry — the game walks you through all of them!

I've never been in a non-monogamous relationship, can I play the Constellations game ?

Yes! The Constellations game is perfectly suited to people who have never been in a non-monogamous relationship, by allowing them to imagine themselves in tangible situations and imagine how they would react.

Over the years, while browsing online forums, Eva, the creator of the game, noticed that the same questions kept coming up again and again when people start exploring non‑exclusive relationships. She wanted to create a tool that helps anticipate these situations and talk them through with one’s partner(s) before they actually happen, in order to better understand our boundaries and desires.

I'm currently single or in a monogamous relationship, can I play the Constellations game ?

If you’ve ever wondered when is the right moment to “have the conversation” about exclusivity with someone you’ve started dating, or whether your hookup / sex friend is seeing other people, you already know these questions aren't only for couples. On the contrary, when we date casually, we learn to navigate non‑exclusivity without necessarily putting a name on it — so it’s worth talking about it clearly to know what to expect.

In reality, everyone would benefit from questioning their romantic relationships and how they fit within their wider relational landscape: our friendships, the relationships with our exes, especially when we’re co‑parents… Jealousy doesn’t spare monogamous couples, and playing the Constellations game can help you better understand your boundaries.

And for monogamous couples who really can’t picture themselves in anything different, you can simply swap the word “partner” for “friend” or “ex” to make the situation fit your reality. For example, the card could become: “How would you feel if your partner spent the whole time on their phone texting a friend during a date?” Or: “How would you react if your partner went on holiday with a group of friends that includes their ex?”

I've been in non-monogamous relationships for a while, can I learn anything form the Constellations game ?

Absolutely! Eva, the creator of the game, has been solo polyamorous for years and has included “SuperNova” cards that address complex situations which can still come up even after many years of being in non‑exclusive relationships.

The Constellations game can also be a great tool for talking with new partners and defining your boundaries and expectations around relationship hierarchy, your connections with metamours, co‑parenting within a polycule, and more.
